Breakthrough percepts of famous names

چکیده
Studies have shown that presenting own-name stimuli on the fringe of awareness in Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) generates a P3 component and provides an accurate countermeasure resistant method for detecting identity deception (Bowman et al., 2013, 2014). The current study investigates how effective this Fringe-P3 is at recognition familiar name with lower salience (i.e., famous names) than stimuli, as well its accuracy multi-item first second pairs presented sequentially). results demonstrated highly significant ERP difference between non-famous names group level detectable 86% participants individual level. This demonstrates can be used other own-names thus further supporting method's potential usefulness forensic applications such accomplices.

Knowledge of famous faces and names in semantic dementia.
Semantic dementia is a focal clinical syndrome, resulting from degeneration of the temporal lobes and characterized by progressive loss of conceptual knowledge about the world. Because of the highly circumscribed nature of the disorder it is a natural model for improving understanding of how semantic information is cerebrally represented. There is currently a lack of consensus. One view propose...
متن کاملRecognition of famous names predicts cognitive decline in healthy elders.
OBJECTIVE The ability to recognize familiar people is impaired in both Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's Dementia (AD). In addition, both groups often demonstrate a time-limited temporal gradient (TG) in which well known people from decades earlier are better recalled than those learned recently. In this study, we examined the TG in cognitively intact elders for remote famous name...
متن کاملSemantic knowledge for famous names in mild cognitive impairment.
Person identification represents a unique category of semantic knowledge that is commonly impaired in Alzheimer's disease (AD), but has received relatively little investigation in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The current study examined the retrieval of semantic knowledge for famous names from three time epochs (recent, remote, and enduring) in two participant groups: 23 amnest...
متن کاملMechanisms underlying the production of false memories for famous people's names in aging and Alzheimer's disease.
It is well known that the occurrence of false memories increases with aging, but the results remain inconsistent concerning Alzheimer's disease (AD). Moreover, the mechanisms underlying the production of false memories are still unclear. Using an experimental episodic memory test with material based on the names of famous people in a procedure derived from the DRM paradigm [Roediger, H. L., III...
متن کاملSharing One Biographical Detail Elicits Priming between Famous Names: Empirical and Computational Approaches
In this paper three experiments and corresponding model simulations are reported that investigate the priming of famous name recognition in order to explore the structure of the part of the semantic system dealing with people. Consistent with empirical findings, novel computational simulations using Burton et al.'s interactive activation and competition model point to a conceptual distinction b...
